UNIT 1: GEOMETRY, BASIC TERMS

GEOMETRY: BASIC TERMS

  • Point (punto)

A point is the place where two lines intersect.
In geometry, a point has no dimension
We represent a point with a dot.
We identify this point with a CAPITAL letter.

  • Line (línea)
A line is made up of infinite points.
It has not endpoints and continues endlessly on a plane.
These lines are named with small letters such r ,s, t...
  • Ray (semirrecta)
A ray is a "straight" line that begins at a certain point and extends forever in one direction.
The point where the ray begins is known as its endpoint.
  • Line segment (segmento)
A line segment is a portion of a "straight" line.
A line segment does not extend forever, but has two endpoints.

The point halfway between the endpoints of a line segment is called the midpoint.  A midpoint divides a line segment into two equal segments.

  • Intersection

The term intersect is used when lines, ray lines or segments share a common point.
The point they share is called the point of intersection.

And here you can find a video explaining the differences between line, line segment and ray.

UNIT 1: INTRODUCTION TO GEOMETRY.

INTRODUCTION: Geometry, Nature and Art.

THE MAGIC OF GEOMETRY

Here are a few videos that show wonderfully the way Nature, Geometry and Art blend together. The three are interconnected. One can not fully exist without the other.

"NATURE BY NUMBERS" (Golden Ratio, and the Fibonacci Seies) a 3D animated short film by Cristobal Vila.

"INFINITE PATTERNS" also by Cristobal Vila.

"MATES APLICADAS" by José Ramón Soriano.

Haiku Exhibition

HAIKU EXHIBITION

Congratulations for those "terrific" Haiku Illustrations. It seems that we have some brilliant future Illustrators in this High School!

Illustration is, and will still be one of the most demanded Careers in the future, it might not be as well paid as a Software Developer, a Financial Data and Information Security Analyst or Biomedical Engineer, but probably far more creative.

Illustrators are those who can visualize ideas and stories. They can work in diverse industries, including businesses where they work as part of a marketing or advertising team. With additional training in graphic design, they can also work as web designers or VFX (Visual Effects) artists.

ILLUSTRATION

 ILLUSTRATION

An illustration is a drawing, painting or printed work of art which explains, clarifies, illuminates, visually represents, or merely decorates a written text, which may be of a literary or commercial nature.

Another definition for illustration in Art is a visualization or a depiction made by an artist, such as a drawing, sketch, painting, photograph, or other kind of image of things seen, remembered or imagined, using a graphical representation.

FORGESEANDO

 "FORGESEANDO"

"Forgeseando" is a project directed by the Asturian Alfonso S. Suarez with the actors who gave their voices to Bart Simpson, SpongeBob and the protagonist of 'Family Guy'. The idea started as a small tribute by Spanish dubbing actors to the cartoonist Forges. The project ended up with more participation than expected, and it ended with 14 cartoons dubbed by these giants of acting in front of the microphone: Juan Perucho (Peter Griffin in 'Family Guy'), Sara Vivas (Bart Simpson), Alex Sandinós (SpongBob), Sandra Jara (Felicity in 'Arrow') and Alfonso Aldeguer (habitual voice of Nicolas Cage and Keneth Brannagh).

 WHAT WILL I DRAW...?

SCRIBBLE ART CHALLENGE

Can we turn a SCRIBBLE into ART???!!

This is what the Canadian artist Ruth Oosterman did when she decided to turn her two-year-old daughter Eve’s scribbles into actual works of art…

Take a look clicking on the image below:

DESIGNING YOUR COVERS

FIRST TASK: COVER DESIGN

Here are some videos to give you IDEAS to design the COVERS of you ART BOOKS.

INSTRUCTIONS

1- FRONT COVER: Related to Art. But remember that your name should appear.
    - Any artistic technique is allowed except for 3D tactile textures and computer graphics.
    - The work must be done in a separate piece of paper, and with a smaller size than a DIN A4.
    - Examples of techniques you can use: watercolours, acrylics, colour pencils, crayons, charcoal, feltpens, markers, collage, mixed technique, etc.)

2- BACK COVER: Something connected to the front cover you have designed (same colours, size, shape, etc.) It could be about you YOUR HOBBY or HOBBIES represented visually with the image you think describes your hobby best, or any other thing you like.

MATERIALS: Feltpens or markers and... whatever you wish!
