GEOMETRY: BASIC TERMS

• Point (punto)                    

−      A point is the place where two lines intersect.

−      In geometry, a point has no dimension

−      We represent a point with a dot.

−      We identify this point with a CAPITAL letter.

• Line (línea)

−        A line is made up of infinite points.

−        It has not endpoints and continues endlessly on a plane. 

−        These lines are named with small letters such r ,s, t...

• Ray (semirrecta)

−      A ray is a "straight" line that begins at a certain point and extends forever in one direction.

−      The point where the ray begins is known as its endpoint.

• Line segment (segmento)

−        A line segment is a portion of a "straight" line.

−        A line segment does not extend forever, but has two endpoints.

−      The point halfway between the endpoints of a line segment is called the midpoint.  A midpoint divides a line segment into two equal segments.

• Intersection

−        The term intersect is used when lines, ray lines or segments share a common point.

−        The point they share is called the point of intersection.

UNIT 6: THE COLOUR WHEEL, ACTIVITIES AND IDEAS.

COLOUR WHEEL WITH COLOUR PENCILS

Draw a 6 cm radius circumference and divide it in 12 equal parts, then colour the primary, secondary and tertiary colours (in this order) using only the three primary colour pencils. Write the names of the colours and divide it in two parts, indicating warm and cool colour schemes.

CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS RECYCLING

Christmas is already here, and we are going to give our Art Class an original touch creating our own Christmas decorations with reclycled materials. We will work in groups and individually.

RECYCLING CD'S

HOW TO PEEL THE CD?

There are several methods: either in boiling water or cut a piece of adhesive tape, stick it firmly onto the CD, and pull sharply. Using a cutter, carefully make a radial cut on the side of the CD with the aluminium. Do this very gently, taking care not to damage the plastic as much as possible.

Look for patterns such as triangles, squares, spirals, or combinations of regular polygons arranged in circular compositions. These will be helpful for your activity.

Important: First Create the Design on A4 Drawing Paper

Before progressing to any hands-on activity, students must first create their pintadera design on A4 drawing paper.

This step allows you to:

• Plan the proportions of the geometric pattern

• Decide which polygons to use

• Experiment with symmetry and composition

• Prepare a clean reference drawing (the sketch in your note book)

This A4 design becomes the blueprint for the optional extension activity.

5. Optional Extension Activity: Create a Pintadera Using Modeling Clay

For students who want to take the project further, there is an optional creative activity:

Make Your Pintadera with Modeling Clay

Students may:

1. Shape a circular clay tablet.

2. Transfer the geometric design from their A4 drawing.

3. Carve, press, or sculpt the lines and shapes.

4. Add textures or raised surfaces inspired by archaeological pintaderas.

This activity allows you to connect more deeply with the original purpose of pintaderas, exploring how ancient artisans might have worked with similar materials.
